Biodiversity

Nature is declining globally at rates unprecedented in human history, with around 1 million animal and plant species threatened with extinction due to human activities (UN Report).

Coffee and cocoa, often cultivated in biodiversity hotspots, contribute to this loss through habitat destruction and monoculture farming. This erosion of biodiversity undermines vital ecosystem services such as pollination, soil fertility, and pest control, threatening both ecosystems and farming livelihoods.

4C Regenerative Agriculture Add-On

The Regenerative Agriculture Add-On supports farmers in adopting practices that restore soil fertility, enhance biodiversity, and strengthen ecosystem services. By encouraging agroforestry, crop diversification, and improved soil and water management, the Add-On helps farmers transition toward farming systems that are both sustainable and resilient.

Improving Biodiversity in Coffee Landscapes

Through our dedicated biodiversity project in Vietnam, 4C works with local farmers to restore ecosystems in coffee landscapes, protect habitats, and promote climate-resilient farming practices. This project demonstrates how certification and on-the-ground action combine to generate measurable impact.

Protecting Ecosystems for Future Generations

By integrating strict biodiversity requirements with field-level projects, 4C ensures that agricultural production protects habitats, conserves natural resources, and sustains the ecosystem services that farmers and communities depend on.
